Rochester Edition (November 11, 1978)

Rochester Edition (November 11, 1978), originally uploaded by trainman74.

I promise you could NOT pick up those broadcast signals from Syracuse, Buffalo, NYC, or Deseronto growing up in Rochester NY in 1978. The big 3 networks and PBS were all we had until WUHF Channel 31 made its debut in 1980. I’ll never forget the day my brother and I were spinning the UHF dial through all of its unused channels only to stumble upon a Spider-Man cartoon on a channel that had been snow the week before. It was as close to stumbling through a magic wardrobe as my childhood ever came. We spent the first year trying to understand why half of their programs were in black and white. We thought maybe they didn’t have enough money to turn the color on until the afternoons

I has a fort!!1

Or, My Fort: Let Me Shows You It!

Right now there is enough space to crawl in there and curl up, but not enough space to sit upright, or turnaround. However it should be pretty easy to get in there, dig up and north, and make enough sitting room for two. The only thing stopping me is the fact that I would like a hand. When you’re in there hollowing out space, you have nowhere to push the snow but toward the doorway, where you quickly block yourself in. I could use the help of someone standing with a broom and shovel taking care of snow removal. Any takers? Saturday night after 6 or anytime Sunday would be ideal.

UPDATE: The landlord came by and smashed it. He must have been worried about “liability,” “safety,” or possibly “Yeti.” Sux.

UPDATE II: Others will carry on my work

Raisins & The Face

I recently had some people over and had them enjoy this wonderful post from The Sneeze; those same people – and you, gentle reader! – should enjoy this other wonderful post from The Sneeze, too.  But everyone, please, be careful over at The Sneeze, lest it draw attention to the inadequacies of our own blogs!

Left Behind

Left Behind, originally uploaded by bobobobob.

Here I am modeling the articles of clothing and the items that were left behind at my party: a nice black hat, a long pumpkin scarf (claimed), some kind of bluish belt (claimed; “turquoise” was the color she spoke in person), and a ridiculous charming pin. If these are yours speak up!

UPDATE :  I have learned that the person who asked about the scarf is NOT the person who owns it, but he did bring to the party in his entourage the person who left it behind, who in turn has just left me a voicemail (“orange” was the color he spoke) trying to arrange a pickup. In the voicemail, he reveals that the scarf was made for him by his own mother (AWWW!).  The most exciting thing about this development is that it allows me to share with everyone that this is the same fellow who sold me my Magic Table, that amazing construction in walnut that is among my prized possessions, which I love more than many of you*, and upon which some of you have eaten and others of you have played cards.  When I bought it from the dude off Craigslist I recognized him as someone I knew (marginally, peripherally, by sight only, barely, even!) from Gay Euchre, and the fact that he was dragged here by some mutual friend was one of the many special highlights of that very good party.

ALSO?: I like the shape of my moustache on the left there; why can’t I get that sharp of an angle on the right?

OH, ALSO?: I learned that the ridiculawesome pin was a gift Left Behind for me intentionally on purpose, so it is, in its own way, also “claimed,” though in this case by “claimed” I mean I gave it away to someone else already.   But thanks Mees Yessie!  I LOOOOOOOVE me some charmiculous “Read” pins now and again!
